Red Dead Redemption help?

Im playing RDR and I beat the level where you have to herd the cattle in a thunder storm and now I cant start a new mission. I read a walkthrough of the game and apparently im supposed to be able to talk to bonnie and then theres fire and slapping horses or something but I cant go to Bonnies house its locked. I can do bounties and my night watchmen job. Whats the problem. It still sez that im still on the temptest looms(cow herding mission) when I save whats the problem!
